|
|
I made the inevitable move to windows XP, and now I no longer have access to the 3dfx "Glide" mode and OpenGL.
Can someone help?

I already tried looking through there. Amigamerlin screwed up my glide mode so I had to install 3dhq over it to fix. :(
Also, I don't have $$ at the moment to get an ATI card or nVidia at the moment.. but I need something that meets these specs:
Code: |
Windows XP
733MHz Celeron
256MB RAM
16/32MB Graphics RAM on card
Must not be RADEON 7000 (hard-lock after POST)
Must not be GeForce2MX 100/200 (random pukes) |

i don't think that there's any suport for Glide in winXP, voodoo graphics cards are just too old and nvidia does what it can to burry all of 3dfx existence. |

Aight, I'll check that out.
edit: I still don't get Glide. Now I just get a black screen, but I can alt-tab out of it.
Also, I get a few "Couldn't register module" errors.

Just a small update.. I did manage to get another non-Quake app to run under Glide, but I just get a black screen (more like vis. purple) when I start fuhquake. Perhaps my computer hates me.
If that's the case, I'll be redirecting my bug-reporting focus to software mode.

Try to get a Geforce 2 mx original or mx400, they're pretty decent (my old one snagged me 100+fps in fuh with 32bit textures, in 1024x768 16bit or 800x600 32bit, it had 32mb ram)
Either that or dualboot win9x.. Glide support in XP is horrible. |

How much for the MX400? And, where? I have the $$$, I don't know where to get one though.
The MX200 was a "Verto" one. My opinion... don't trust Verto.

Around here you can buy GF4MX440 cards (which are roughly 2.5x faster than GF2MX400 cards) for like $60 CAD, which is like $40 usd or something, this is more than enough to run fuhquake in 1280x960 with maxed out quality. Just make sure it's not a MX440SE.. then it'll pretty much max out your system. Since GF2MX cards are only like $10 cheaper I don't think it's worth it, but then again $10 step up from a GF4MX will get you something much better.. and $10 step above that will get something even better, if you only play quake the GF4MX440 is more than enough though. |

I got a 733MHz Celeron, not a 1.5GHz Pentium 4! :D
Anyhow, I'll check it out. I may go back to the shops soon to see if I can't get it, otherwise I'll just look online.
End of topic.

for €60 you can easily get a GFFX 5200, you will be able to play most of the games around so why buy a miserable gf4mx ? |
