put them in quake\id1
open quake
playdemo name_of_demo
no .mvd

press `esc`

find your demo and press 'enter'

is recording in mvd just as easy?! |

apparently recording to mvd is "impossible", but i think i saw fuh post about a feature to automatically convert recorded *.qwd files to *.mvd
(on match_save)? |

true: MVD stands for MultiViewDemo. They contain all points of view so you can see all players during the demo. Something you could not do when watching a QWD. This requires the demo to be recorded SERVERSIDE. So no, you can not record MVD yourself.
However if you like the smoothness of MVD's compared to QWD it is possible to convert QWD's to MVD using QWDTOOL. I have made a ready-2-go package with batfiles and everything you need to convert QWZ <> QWD > MVD.
